Riverside – Woodrow “Woody” Russell, 70, of Pawtucket Avenue, died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at South County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, North Kingstown. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeannette (Ringuette) Russell, and the longtime companion of Annette Salvas.
Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, a son of the late Nina Russell, he was raised by his late aunts and uncles, Vincent and Veronica Gordon, and Woodrow and Lillian Russell.
Mr. Russell worked as a landscaper before retiring.
An amazing singer, he loved to sing and travel. When he was 25, he hitchhiked from R.I. to California and back. He loved being by the water and going to parties at the marina. He was loved by everyone he met.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Michelle Hulme, and her husband Christopher, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and Robin Fredette of Pawtucket; two granddaughters Tabtiha McFall of Bellingham, Massachusetts, and Natasha Hulme of Bronx, New York; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Rena-Jae, Scarlett, Victor and Elijah; and his cousins whom he thought of as siblings, Veronica DiSalvo of Barrington, Linda Martin of Barrington, Sheila Zonfrillo of Warwick, Lillian Russell of Hawaii, Vivian Proux of California, George Russell of California, Ellie Russell of California, and Danny Russell of California. He was the cousin of the late Barbara Ricci and Lenny Russell.
A Celebration of Woody’s Life will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Continuum Care of R.I., 1350 Division Road, Suite 205, West Warwick, R.I. 02893 would be appreciated.
