Cumberland - William "Bill" Caldwell, 91, of Attleboro, formerly of Thomas Leighton Blvd, Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline F. (Hobbs) Caldwell and the former husband of the late Isabel Engley.
Born in Providence, a son of Scottish immigrants- the late Robert H. and Charlotte (Elliot) Caldwell, he had lived in Cumberland for over sixty years before moving to Attleboro a few years ago.
A U.S. Army veteran, Bill served in the 17th Field Artillery Brigade during the Korean War. He later worked as a salesman for Brian Supply Co., Providence, and MSC Industrial, Pawtucket, retiring in 2010. Upon his retirement, he worked as a bus monitor and crossing guard.
A longtime member of Four Corners Community Chapel, Bill served as Church President, a deacon, a trustee, and served on every board at the church. He also sang in the choir, which brought him much joy. Bill was a former member of the Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus and the Cumberland Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by two sons, Scott A. Caldwell (Peggy) of Cumberland, and Glen C. Caldwell (Anne) of Martha's Vineyard, MA.; three step-daughters, Susan Bostian of New Jersey, Nancy Pelletier (Ed) of Cumberland, and Maddy Jean Higgins-Cinieri (Peter) of Cumberland; seven grandchildren; Scott, Samantha, Julia, Keith, Andrew, Jason and Katie, and eleven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Allison Caldwell, the grandfather of the late Jeffrey Sousa, and the brother of the late Joyce Drake, Mary Fallon, Robert E. Caldwell and Elmer A. Caldwell.
His funeral will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM in Four Corners Community Chapel, 200 Angell Road, Cumberland. Family and friends are invited and may attend visiting hours on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. A private burial with military honors will be in Diamond Hill Cemetery, Cumberland.
