North Attleborough - Wayne E. Patterson, M.D., 89, of Old Post Road, died Monday, August 9, 2021 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Black) Patterson. Dr. & Mrs. Patterson had been married for fifty-four years, until her passing ten years ago.
Born in Attleboro, a son of the late Leslie and Esther (Hornby) Patterson, he had lived in North Attleborough for the past forty-five years.
Dr. Patterson was an endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and was a consultant and researcher in the medical and pharmaceutical industries for many years, retiring a few years ago. He was a graduate of Clark University, was a Fulbright Scholar and earned a Diplom Doctor Biochemie from Universitat Heidelberg, and a doctorate of medicine from Cornell University, School of Medicine.
An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He enjoyed listening to classical music, as well as collecting and repairing all sorts of antiques, and loved grandfather clocks. He loved to fly, and obtained his pilot’s license in 1948.
He is survived by one daughter, Laura J. Bayer of North Attleborough; one sister, Priscilla Brines, and her husband Gerry, of Yarmouthport; three grandchildren, Adryanna Duarte, Joshua Patterson and Katelynn Rodrigues; one great grandson, Hunter Spagna; and one nephew, John Haynes. He was the brother of the late Robert Patterson.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket.
