Obituary

Providence - Theodore F. Low, 95, of Blackstone Boulevard, passed Monday, March 13, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband for sixty-two years of Kay Hohenthaner Low.

A lifelong resident of Providence, he was the son of the late Isadore S. and Cecile S. Low.

Mr. Low was a graduate of Moses Brown School, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Brown University, and the Ohio State University Graduate School of Business. He was the president of Sims Corporation, worked in alternative energy for the Swiss company Widmer+Ernst and Blount Energy, before retiring from his own company, TFL and Associates. He was a State Representative from 1966 to 1976.

He served during World War II; the Korean War, earning the Bronze Star; and the R.I. Army National Guard. Mr. Low was responsible for the development and construction of the Korean War Monument in Providence. He was appointed Rhode Island Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army from 2005 to 2017 and awarded the uncommon title CASA Emeritus by the Secretary of the Army. 

He was a longtime member of the University Club of Rhode Island, the Swiss Alpine Club (Engelberg section), and Willow Dell Beach Club. He enjoyed athletics both in school and after graduation, especially swimming, football, and sailing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sara B. Low of Providence and Emily L. Boenning, and her husband Dickson, of Jamestown; one sister, Brenda Mann of Canton, OH; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Susan Sauer.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Unitarian Church of Providence, 1 Benevolent Street, Providence. Military honors will follow. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Private burial will take place in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Low Family Scholarship Fund, c/o Moses Brown School, 250 Lloyd Avenue, Providence, R.I. 02906 would be appreciated.
