Lincoln – Simone Marie Arianne Zangari, 101, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis A. J. Zangari.
Born in a log cabin in Lac-Humqui, Québec, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Adѐle (St. Gelais) Gagnon, she had lived in Lincoln since 1951.
In 1943, Simone began her career as a key punch operator. She met Louis Zangari at a dance at Coat’s Field Mill Hall in 1948; they married a year later and were together until his passing in 1988.
An avid singer, she sang as a member of the Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus and the Voices of Corning, in addition to singing in the choir at St. Jude Church, Lincoln, where she was a longtime communicant. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting. She spoke fondly of winning First Prize in the McCall Doll Dressmaking Contest 1933-1934 even though as a child, she never had a doll of her own.
She is survived by two sons: Paul L. Zangari and his wife, Karen, of Lincoln; and John C. Zangari and his wife, Beth, of Lincoln; one sister, Gertrude Pelletier, of Somerset, Mass.; four grandchildren: Melissa Cording and her husband, Robert; Amanda Marie Zangari; and Rebecca Simone Flanagan and her husband, Kyle; and Adam Zangari. She is also survived by two great grandchildren: John Cording and Hannah Simone Cording; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Henri Gagnon, Regina Gaumond, Laurette Gladu Senecal, Anita Gagnon, Adelme Gagnon, François Gagnon, Antoine Gagnon, Georgianne Boutin, Gerard Gagnon and Georges Gagnon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, her burial service in Rhode Island Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Exeter is limited to family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Holiday Retirement Home for caring for Mrs. Zangari in the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Bridge Over Troubled Waters, 47 West Street, Boston, MA 02111 or Meals on Wheels, 70 Bath Street, Providence, R.I. 02908 would be appreciated. Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
