Lincoln - Roger H. Durand, 86, of John Street, died Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Cheryl Rowe and the former husband of Claire Durand of Rumford.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Harold and Elsie (Beck) Durand, he had lived in Lincoln for the past twenty-five years.
Mr. Durand began his career in insurance working for John Hancock Insurance Co. and was the owner of the Durand Insurance Agency in Central Falls, Seekonk and Rehoboth, retiring in 2010.
Roger was a numismatist, and was a collector of rare paper money, writing numerous books on the subject. He was an ambassador of the Society of Paper Money Collectors, of which he was incredibly proud. He also enjoyed fishing in his free time, and served in the Rhode Island National Guard.
Besides his former wife, he is survived by one daughter, Karen Durand of Pawtucket; three sons, Rev. Roger Durand II of Cranston, Timothy Durand of Rehoboth, Mass., and Christopher Durand of North Attleborough, Mass.; one sister, Michele Schnackel of Florida; and two grandchildren, Taylor Durand and Holly Durand. He will also be missed by his extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln.
