Lincoln – Robert A. Surprenant, 94, formerly of Albion, died Friday, December 25, 2020 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa M. (Richard) Surprenant.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Arthur and Ella (Lavimodierre) Surprenant, he resided in Albion for 64 years before moving to North Smithfield and later to Cumberland
Mr. Surprenant worked as a machinist for Draper Corporation, and as a groundskeeper at Providence College for many years, where he always took great pride in his work.
Bob was a genuine family man; he was happiest at home caring for his wife and children and later doting on his grandchildren. At home, if he wasn’t caring for his family, he could be found in the garage tending to his cars, which were always impeccably maintained and waxed perfectly! He was a “jack of all trades” who could fix anything, and was willing to help anyone out. In his later life, he enjoyed taking care of his cat Terry. He will be remembered for always wearing a baseball cap that matched whatever outfit he wore.
He is survived by two daughters, Simone O. Gagne of Burrillville and Pauline St. Martin of Lincoln; one son, Robert M. Surprenant of Burrillville; two sisters, Vivian Desmarais of Burrillville and Muriel Auclair of Florida; one brother, Roger Surprenant of North Smithfield; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lillian Highwalker, Violet Surprenant, and Raymond Surprenant.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ambrose Church, Albion. Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery, Albion where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife.
