Lincoln - Robert Allan Steitz, of Lincoln, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, from complications of Parkinson's Disease, just days after his 86th birthday. Born in Providence on March 31, 1937, he was the son of the late Oscar L. Steitz and Doris W. Steitz-Neville. He was the beloved husband of Janice (Bennett) Steitz, for sixty years. Mr. & Mrs. Steitz met as members of the Rumford Grange, and celebrated their wedding anniversary just two weeks ago. He was a loving and very proud father and grandfather.
Bob graduated from East Providence High School in 1955, with plans to attend Georgia Tech University. His first semester was cut short by illness, and he returned home to recuperate. He enrolled in the electrical engineering program at Northeastern University, and also attended the University of Rhode Island. He found his career niche when East Providence Computer Institute (EPCI) opened its doors. Computer programming and technology became his passion. He worked in Systems Programming/Computer Operations Technical Support for thirty years, retiring in 1999 as the Information Services Production Manager at Rhode Island Hospital.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Julie A. Steitz of Coventry; one son, James Andrew Steitz of Cumberland; three grandsons, Benjamin, Cullen and Keagan Steitz of Seekonk, Mass.; and one sister, Doris E. Locklair of Merritt Island, FL.
A Celebration of His Life will be held THURSDAY, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Chapel Street Congregational Church, 185 Chapel Street, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Moshassuck Cemetery, Central Falls. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call TUESDAY from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
