Robert Matteson Obituary

Manville - Robert Matteson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 surrounded by his devoted family. Rob was hospitalized on January 5th and courageously fought a month-long battle like a true warrior.

Rob was loved deeply by his family and friends.  His quirky interests and insatiable curiosity made every conversation with him a chance to learn something new.  As a child, Rob loved science experiments (unless they were for a school assignment), gaming, and technology.  Rob and his dad, Paul, enjoyed spending time together in the Boy Scouts.  Rob achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America in his senior year of high school.  If you were camping or just relaxing in the backyard, you wanted him by your side.  His fire-making and knot-tying skills were unmatched and were often requested by his sister, Judy.  Rob's interests led him to a career in IT and hobbies which included building computers and making his home as smart as he was.

In 2015, Rob met the love of his life, his wife, Dianna. Rob loved his family unconditionally with kindness and passion.  The amount of happiness, joy, and laughter he brought to his nieces could fill the universe.  He danced, chased, laughed, and snuggled with them often.  His humor, kindness, and love created the memories his family will hold tight.

Rob could be stubborn; however, this quality also drove his intellect.  He never met a problem he couldn't brainstorm a solution for or a topic he wasn't happy to debate.  Rob often helped his mom, Annette, bring her ideas to life.  In the past year, Rob immersed himself in learning about and creating bioactive isopod colonies.  Along with Dianna, Rob began attending reptile shows and sharing his new passions with others.  Rob was always opening the minds and hearts of those around him.

Rob, the son of Paul Matteson of West Warwick, RI and Annette (Desjardins) Briand of Lincoln, RI, was born November 3, 1987.  He graduated Cranston High School East in 2005 and obtained his bachelor of science in information technology-security from Western Governors University in 2019.  In 2017, Rob began working at Intellibeam.  As a solutions architect, Rob continued to grow his IT knowledge and help clients throughout New England.  In addition to his parents, Rob will be greatly missed by his wife, Dianna Matteson (Cornell) of Lincoln; his sister, Judy Jones (Matteson) and her husband, Ray Jones of Lincoln; his stepfather, Thomas Briand of Lincoln; his grandparents, Beverly and Herman Matteson of East Greenwich; his nieces Estella, Elliana, Justice, and Serenity; his mother-in-law, Donna Jean of Westerly; his sister-in-law, Deborah Jean of Westerly; and other extended family.

Rob was a blood donor, and during his fight, he was able to receive essential blood and platelet transfusions.  In lieu of flowers, Rob's family requests that you pay this forward by donating blood or platelets or by making a financial donation to your local blood bank.

A Celebration of Rob's Life is being planned.  Details will be shared by the family on Facebook when finalized.  For online guest book, please visit www.bellowsfuneralchapel.com.  Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
