Robert Baxter Obituary

Lincoln – Robert Baxter, 84, of Lincoln passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Astley) Baxter.

   Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late L. Rowland and Sarah E. (Carnaghan) Baxter, he had lived in Lincoln for the past 75 years.

   Mr. Baxter was a 1953 graduate of Cumberland where he was a star athlete in baseball and basketball. He was a top notch softball player. He was also attended the Rhode Island School of Design.

   He was a self-employed painter and wallpaperer for many years before retiring. He was also a gifted artist.

   An avid golfer, he was a member of the White Eagles Golf League at Chemawa Golf Course, North Attleboro, MA where the Golfer of the Year Award is named after him.

   He loved to go to the former Lincoln Downs Dog Track and later went to Twin River Casino to view its simulcast. He was a Civil War history buff.

   Mr. Baxter was a big Boston Sports fan, enjoying the Celtics, the Red Sox, the Bruins, and the Patriots.

   He is survived by his loving companion of 17 years, Denise Calderwood of Lincoln, and his two loving sons, Steven Baxter, US Navy Captain (ret.) and his wife Theresa of Las Vegas, NV and Robert S. Baxter and his wife Sue Anne of Swansea, MA; two sisters, Alyce Hanley of Anchorage, AK and Rosalie Enos of Lincoln; one brother, Richard Baxter of New Bern, NC; three granddaughters, Stephanie and Erika Baxter of Swansea, MA and Autum Grimm of Marysville, WA; two great grandchildren, Nathen and Alexandra Grim of Marysville, WA; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ronald Baxter.

   His visiting hours will be held Monday, June 22 from 9-11 A.M followed by his funeral service at 11 A.M. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. PLEASE NOTE: Per the R.I. Dept. of Health due to Covid-19, only fifteen (15) people may be in the funeral home at any time during the visitation.
