Raymond Stephenson Obituary

Providence - Raymond Stephenson, 77, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, May 20, 2022 while rehabbing from a fall on Good Friday.  Born in Pawtucket on November 5, 1944, he was the son of the late Gifford and Nellie Stephenson.

He is survived by his brother, Robert G. Stephenson, and sisters-in-law, Marsha Stephenson and Virginia Stephenson.  He was the brother of the late Richard Stephenson.  He leaves his nephews, Richard, Michael, Raymond, Robert and Douglas Stephenson, and his niece Robin Suprenant, as well as many great nephews and a great niece.

Raymond grew up in Pawtucket and Colchester, Connecticut, returning to Rhode Island in 1971 after his father died.  Raymond was a devoted companion and caregiver for his mother for many years.  He had a long career as a product control manager at Vistawall, Warwick.

He was an independent, gentle and kind man with a quick wit.  A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a member of the former Church of the Advent, and the Church of the Good Shepherd, serving on both vestries and presently as clerk of the vestry.  He was a man of great faith, and will be deeply missed by his church friends.

Raymond loved to travel, especially to Florida and Las Vegas.  He enjoyed reading, attending shows, watching the Patriots, and going to casinos, where he was often quite lucky.  He frequented restaurants where all of the wait staff knew his name, and what he liked to eat and drink.

The family wishes to recognize the loving and exceptional care Raymond received from Rehabilitation Hospital of R.I. and Atria Lincoln Place.  The family is so thankful to all their staff for taking such good care of Raymond, as he so enjoyed the shared good-natured banter that brightened his days.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 490 Broadway, Pawtucket.  Family will receive guests prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church.
