Raymond Sousa, Jr. Obituary

Lincoln - Raymond Sousa, Jr., 88, formerly of Old River Road, died Saturday, February 20, 2021 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence.  He was the beloved husband of the late Dolores T. (Peters) Sousa.  Mr. & Mrs. Sousa had been married for sixty-five years before her passing in March 2020.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Raymond and Louise (Silva) Sousa, he had lived in Rehoboth and Lincoln before moving to Greenville.

Mr. Sousa was a firefighter for the City of East Providence Fire Department, retiring in 1988.

He loved his family above all else, and enjoyed the time he spent with them.  He was a member of the Manville Rod & Gun Club, and a communicant of Saint Ambrose Church, Albion.  A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War.

He is survived by two daughters Cheryl Sousa Dwyer, and her husband Kerry of Sutton, Massachusetts, and Donna Rae Sousa Haigh of Smithfield; and two grandsons, Michael J. Haigh and Daniel R. Haigh.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. & Mrs. Sousa will be celebrated Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion.  Burial with military honors, will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Social distancing will be followed and all guests will be required to wear a mask.  The Mass will be available for viewing via livestream on Mr. Sousa’s online memorial page at www.bellowsfuneralchapel.com.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.  Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
