Peter Dekreon Obituary

Lincoln - Peter N. Dekreon, 57, of Manville, died Thursday, February 6, 2025 surrounded in the warm embrace of his family at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence after courageously living with early onset Alzheimers. He was the beloved husband of Jennifer (Ustas) Dekreon, with whom he had thirty-two wonderful years of marriage. Born in Anchorage, Alaska, a son of the late Joseph John Michael and Olga (Dups) Dekreon, he had resided in Manville for the past twenty-seven years, previously residing in Eagle River and Chugiak, Alaska.

While in Alaska, Peter began volunteering for The Alaska Autism Project which opened the door to his career. He returned to Rhode Island to obtain his masters degree as a behavior analyst. Most of his career he worked for Seven Hills in Woonsocket before retiring due to illness. He dedicated his life to helping individuals with special needs and their families. Peter had a remarkable ability to treat everyone with dignity and respect, giving them the tools they needed for success in their communities.

Peter had a passion for music and loved to jam with friends. He played with several bands that would "play out" in various locations around Rhode Island. Making music with his friends gave him so much joy! Another source of great joy for him was to see live music, especially the Grateful Dead. He has passed this passion for music on to his children.

Pete also had a passion for sports. He was a die hard New England sports fan. Even as a kid growing up in Alaska, his favorite team was the Patriots.

He was active with his children growing up. He coached his children and nieces, Hannah and Tess Dwyer, in the Manville Farm League. When his son began playing football in the Lincoln Youth Football League, Pete began coaching him. He followed his son through his years in youth football, also coaching for Lincoln High School. When his son moved on to college, Pete continued to coach in Lincoln Youth Football, remaining committed to the development of the youth in his town.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Cassidy Dekreon; two sons, Brinton Dekreon and Zachary Dekreon; four sisters, Julie Dekreon, Gail Dekreon, Louise Dekreon-Watsjold and Susan Dekreon; and three brothers, Michael Dekreon, Mark Dekreon and Andrew Dekreon.
