Smithfield - Penelope Trottier, 86, of Smithfield, died Thursday, January 15, 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Maurice P. Trottier.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Helen (Whitman) and Arthur S.C. Thomson, she had resided in Smithfield since 2024.
Penelope worked at Hasbro Industries for twenty-six years as a production planner. When her children were young, she was involved in youth activities in the Fairlawn section of Pawtucket. She was a den mother with Pack 42, Cub Scouts, and was involved in the Fairlawn Little League and Fairlawn Cardinals. She was a charter member of the Fairlawn Girls Sports. When her children were grown, she was involved with the Major Walter Gatchell Post #306, VFW Auxillary, serving as treasurer for ten years, and president for ten years. She served as Department of R.I. President 2014-2015 and Department of R.I. Treasurer from 2015-2017. She was also an associate member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Ocean State Chapter #1.
She leaves four children, Gary (Cheryl) Trottier of Rehoboth, Mass., Gregory (Jacqueline) Trottier of Ashaway, Rebecca (Jody) Jenkins of Smithfield, and Kimberly Trottier of Chepachet; eleven grandchildren, Jeremy (Joyce) Jenkins, Jason (Kerri) Jenkins, Nicholas (Rebecca) Jenkins, Natasha (Derrick) Estrada, Gianna (Justin) McLeish, Gary (Kelsey) Trottier, Hayley (Aaron) Jenkins, Holly (Lukas) Ayers, Jeffrey (Marty) Beaucage, Kayla Trottier and Gregory (Gianna) Trottier; fourteen great grandchildren, Juliana Jenkins, Christian Trottier, Jacob Jenkins, Lillian Jenkins, Emily Jenkins, Adam Place, Michael McLeish, Levi Jenkins, Dean McLeish, Lilliana Estrada, Antonio Estrada, Penelope Jenkins, Louis Trottier and Nova Jenkins; one brother, Curt (Eleanor) Thomson; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gail Miller.
Her funeral will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at 10:30 AM in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Thursday from 4:00 -7:00 PM.
