Harmony – Peggy-Jean Murphy, 82, of Saw Mill Road, died Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul M. Murphy.
Born in Lincoln, a daughter of the late Charles T. and Roberta (Elliot) Goucher, she had lived in Harmony since 1966.
Mrs. Murphy worked as a Personal Income Tax Clerk for the State of Rhode Island Division of Taxation, retiring in 2004. She was a 1954 graduate of Saint Xavier Academy.
An avid reader, her love of books inspired two of her children to become librarians. She enjoyed researching Civil War and World War II history, as well as her own family history.
She is survived by two daughters, Christine Murphy of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and Marianne Murphy, and her wife Robin, of North Providence; one son, Matthew Murphy, and his wife Laura, of Harmony. Peggy-Jean was predeceased by her son Daniel Paul Murphy, on August 23, 2019. Other grieving family members include two sisters, Roberta Petrarca of Coventry, and Noelle Mongeon of Colorado; one brother, Thomas Goucher of Foster; her daughter-in-law Patricia Olney-Murphy of Coventry; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
