Muriel Burke Obituary

North Smithfield - Muriel M. (Leclerc) Burke, 96, of Sunnycrest Avenue, died Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Friendly Home, Woonsocket. She was the beloved wife of the late James T. Burke.

Born in Uxbridge, Mass., a daughter of the late Clovis and Yvonne (Bouvier) Leclerc, she had resided in North Smithfield for the past forty-six years.

Mrs. Burke was the secretary to the Principal of North Smithfield High School for many years before retiring. She was a member of the North Smithfield Democratic Town Committee for many years, serving as Treasurer until stepping down two years ago at the age of 94.

Muriel's greatest love was her family, and enjoyed attending their many school and sports events. She loved animals and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, Slatersville.

She is survived by her nieces, Joanne Borden, and her husband John, of North Smithfield, Suzanne Tolliver of Carroll, OH, and Diane Crocker of Macomb County, MI; her great niece and nephew, Jessica Patrie and Kyle Borden; her great-great niece, Olivia Borden; and several additional nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gerald Leclerc, Doris Hebert and Donald Leclerc.

At her request, her funeral mass and burial in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, North Smithfield will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.
