Lincoln - Michael J. Worton, 63, of Lincoln, Rhode Island, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Schwenk) Worton. They had been married for forty-three years.
Born in Fall River, Mass., a son of Richard F. Worton and the late June (Long) Worton he had resided in North Smithfield and Lincoln for the past forty years.
Michael worked as a finish carpenter, specializing in solid surface fabrication. He served as a coxswain at the United States Coast Guard Station Castle Hill in Newport, RI. He was instrumental in leading search and rescue missions throughout the greater Narragansett Bay Area. Michael was an avid New England sports fan and took that love of sports into practice by coaching and mentoring hundreds of young athletes across northern Rhode Island for twenty years. He was a parishioner of Christ Church, Lincoln.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his son, Brendan Worton of Glenside, PA; two sisters, Susan Buckless of Middletown, and Tracey Chilli of Swansea, Mass.; one brother, Richard A. Worton of Swansea, Mass.; and three grandchildren, James Worton, Evelyn Worton and Beau Worton.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00am in Christ Church, 1643 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
