Meredith Ainscough Parker, 82, of New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away suddenly Friday, November 15, 2024 with her loving husband of 59 years, Craig A. Parker, by her side.
Meredith, (Merry), was born in Providence, RI on May 22, 1942 to the late Ralph L. Ainscough and Grace I. Wilkinson. Meredith and Craig moved from Lincoln, Rhode Island to New Smyrna Beach, FL in 2004 to enjoy an early retirement. She was preceded in death by her only sister Marjorie.
Meredith, a 1964 graduate of Bates College, Lewiston Maine worked as a computer programmer for the Rhode Island. Hospital Trust National Bank in Providence After her two children were born she took several years off to help raise them. She later worked as the office manager for Parker - Luther Company in Pawtucket, RI for several years. In Lincoln she was active in the Parent Teacher Association of Lincoln Central Elementary School serving as treasurer. and was also on the leadership board of Troop 10 Boy Scouts of America for several years.
Meredith was a member of the Chapel Street Congregational Church, Lincoln, RI where over the she served as a member of the Board of Deacons, usher, lay reader and Sunday School teacher. She was also an Associate Member of Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA, New Smyrna Beach, FL serving as an usher and member of the altar guild and quilting group.
Meredith was known for her ready smile, friendly outgoing manner, and cheerful personality always ready to assist anyone who asked. She had many friends in Florida and Rhode Island. She enjoyed her daily afternoon walks in her Florida neighborhood with friends, often stopping to chat then returning home to sit on her back porch with Craig and tell him what birds or flowers she had seen. She loved to do hand quilting and took great pride in crafting a large bed size quilt for each of her grandchildren, an idea she got from her grandmother Wilkinson who made similar quilts.
A 42-year member of the Bristol Yacht Club in Bristol, RI she and Craig traveled yearly to RI to enjoy their boat. They sailed around RI and up to Maine several times for over 40 years before buying a power boat.
She is survived by her husband, Craig, their son, Kevin Parker of Phoenix, AZ and his wife, Elizabeth: their son Brian Parker of Feasterville, PA and his wife Meghan: 6 grandchildren, Rebecca, Eleanor, Ruby, Brian, Shelby and Maggie; a niece, Cheryl, and her husband Kendall Miller of Timonium, MD and a nephew Robert of Owings Mills, MD.
A Service of Remembrance & Thanksgiving will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Chapel Street Congregational Church, 185 Chapel Street, Lincoln. Family and friends are invited. A private burial will follow.
