She taught as a Special-Ed substitute teacher in Rhode Island for three years. Later, she worked for what is now the Omni Hotel in Providence as a room service agent. Throughout this time, Mary Ellen cared for her disabled daughter for 33 years with the help of CNA Jacqueline Dorley.
Mary Ellen and her husband Kevin, met thru an online dating site in 2013, enjoyed two cruises to the islands, attended many music concerts, and Mary Ellen even conquered her fear of heights, by taking a hot-air balloon ride in New Hampshire. Besides her husband, Kevin, she is survived by her loving children, Danielle Rivet of Providence and Keith A. Rivet of Vermont; two cherished grandchildren, Tanner Chase Rivet and Natalie Rivet; and two caring brothers, John Ward of Florida and Christopher Ward of Long Island, NY.
