Mary Rebello Obituary

Lincoln-  Mary B. (Gouveia) Rebello, 97, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Miriam Hospital, Providence.  She was the wife of the late Ronald F. Rebello.  She was born in Central Falls on January 1, 1922, the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Rodrigues) Gouveia.  She had lived in Lincoln the last 10 years, previously residing in Cumberland for 52 years.

Mary worked in various positions for Corning Glass works before her retirement in 1978.

Mary was a fabulous cook - some of her most well-loved recipes were lasagna, fried chicken, baked stuffed pork chops, a rich, buttery pound cake, and a chocolate cake that none of us seem to be able to duplicate. She had all her recipes in her head, so when we would ask for one, it would take several tries before we got the whole recipe (Oh, I forgot to tell you to add ....) No wonder her version always tasted best!

She was an avid reader and spent countless hours with her kindle. Once she started a book, she finished it, even though more often than not, she said she hated it. She liked to finish what she started! Through the years she cultivated various hobbies - ceramics, oil and acrylic painting, sewing, crocheting, making stained glass lamps and windows, singing in the choir. She loved to decorate cakes and designed and built some amazing pieces, from birthday and anniversary cakes to extraordinary wedding cakes.

As the years passed, she found solace in her recliner - playing video games, working on her coloring books, and doing her all-time favorite thing - watching Jeopardy every night. She had a real love/hate relationship with the host - Alex Trebec.

Maryloved her living room with its awesome view of Scott's Pond and enjoyed watching the various wildlife visitors. One winter when the pond was completely frozen, she swore she saw squirrels jumping up out of holes in the ice (had she gotten into the liquor cabinet?)

Though she married late and was widowed early, Mary had a wonderful life. She and Ron loved to travel to golf resorts in the Carolinas and in Bermuda. She was also a Disney fanatic and enjoyed many trips to Disneyworld - her last time there was at age 92. She was fortunate enough to have dinner almost every night with 4 generations, as she listened to our adventures of the day. (Ok, some nights she didn't put the hearing aid in and heard nothing, but she could nod her head and fake it really well!)

We always thought she would live to at least 103, like her mother before her, but we know she gave it her best shot. We will all miss this tiny lady with her dry sense of humor.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie J. Girouard (Edward DiQuinzio)  of Lincoln, her son, Ronald Anthony Rebello (Dawn) of Providence; three grandchildren, Max Girouard III (Lauri), Victoria Girouard and Jessica Girouard; and great grandson, Martin Swenson.  She was the sister of the late Joseph and Anthony Gouveia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aidan Church with burial following in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
