Smithfield – Mary (Marcello) Hillier, 92, of Smithfield passed away peacefully Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Heritage Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Ernest E. Hillier.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Moretti) Marcello, she had lived in West Warwick and Smithfield for most of her life.
Mrs. Hillier was a telephone operator for the former New England Telephone Company for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was an honorary member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph’s Church, West Warwick.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah M. Michalenka and her husband Peter of Lincoln; one son, Ernest J. Hillier and his wife Lori of Dudley, MA; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Jeffrey Michalenka and the sister of the late J. Vincent Marcello, Anthony Marcello, Eva Bonitati and Rose Aceto.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 9 at 10 A.M. in St. Jude’s Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Her burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Social distancing will be followed and all guests will be required to wear masks.
