Cumberland – Marion J. (Barlow) Shepherd, 87, of Cumberland passed away peacefully Monday, October 12, 2020. She was the wife of the late Edison W. Shepherd. Born in Providence, she was the oldest daughter of the late Ernest and Alice (Collins) Barlow of Cumberland.
She met her late husband at Glass-Kraft and they married in 1955. They lived briefly in Fairlawn, then moved to Cumberland to raise their family on Howard Road, next door to where Marion was raised.
Marion is survived by her four children, Joni L. Robert (predeceased by Alan) of Cumberland, Bradford Shepherd (Kathy) of Tampa, FL, Bruce A. Shepherd (Heather) of Cumberland; and Douglas S. Shepherd (Kris) of Lincoln; her six grandchildren, Kim Robert, Amy Parent, Sara Shepherd, Ellen Shepherd, Zack Shepherd and Molly Shepherd; and her two great grandchildren, Cole and Nora Parent. She is also survived by her four siblings, Barbara Callahan of Raynham, MA, Ernest Barlow of Cambridge, MD, Priscilla Patton of Downers Grove, IL and Ralph Barlow of Narragansett. She also leaves a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marion could really stretch a dollar and provided a wonderful childhood of camping, traveling, history, and activities for her children. She loved watching her kids and grandkids enjoy playing in the woods and pond as she and her siblings had done. Her hobbies were following the Red Sox, reading, cooking and gardening.
Mrs. Shepherd worked for the School Lunch Program in Central Falls and Lincoln for many years. She grew up in, and was an active member of Arnold Mills United Methodist Church in Cumberland.
Her graveside service, with the Rev. Arlene Tully officiating, will be held for the immediate family. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted. Masks and social distancing are mandatory.
