Leo P. Dooley, Jr.

Lincoln - After a wonderful 94-year life, Leo “Bob” P. Dooley died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 2, 2023, to join his wife, Nancy; his parents, Leo P. and Marion Kenneally Dooley; his sisters, Eileen Drottz and Margaret Malone, and his brothers, Jack, Bill, Larry, and Paul. Survivors include his son Jeffrey R. Dooley, married to Marne Orsillo of West Hartford, CT; a daughter Colleen M. Crawley, wife of Daniel Crawley Jr., of South Kingstown, RI;  a son Scott J. Dooley of Lincoln, RI and a brother, Ken Dooley of Savannah, GA. He was also an uncle to many loving and devoted nieces and nephews.

Bob, as he was known to family and friends, was particularly proud of his grandsons, Joseph N. and Ryan P. Dooley of West Hartford, CT, and Daniel P. Crawley III and Zachary J. Crawley of South Kingstown, RI. He loved attending their baseball games and swim meets and came to be known as a good luck charm for their respective teams.

After graduating from Cranston High School in 1947, he joined the U.S. Army and participated in the Inchon invasion in Korea in 1950. When the Chinese joined the North Koreans, his unit was trapped and had to be evacuated from Pusan. His family learned about the furious fighting from other sources because Bob never discussed the experiences that earned him a Korean service medal with two bronze service stars. “The real heroes are buried there,” he would respond to any questions about his Korean experiences.

He was employed at Narragansett Electric Company for 40 years, retiring in 1993. There, he met Nancy Donahue, and they were married for 36 years before her death in 2007.  He was a communicant of Saint Jude’s Church in Lincoln for almost fifty years.  He was a frequent volunteer at Saint Jude’s, teaching Catechism lessons, and served on a committee that counts the weekly church offering.  Bob was a huge New England Sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
