Kenneth Broughton White II, known affectionately as K.B., passed away on August 28, 2024, in Cumberland, Rhode Island, after a period of declining health. Born on January 13,1944 in New York City, Kenneth's life was marked by a profound dedication to his family,craft, and community.
Kenneth was a master woodworker, a vocation he passionately pursued. He was a founding partner of the architectural woodworking firm Herrick & White. He later founded East Coast Laminating, specializing in woodworking, cabinetry, and commercial fabrication. His craftsmanship graced many institutions, including Providence College, and complemented custom boats in Maine. His work was both profession and art, evident in his meticulous woodturning projects, which created exquisite custom bowls and other fine pieces, prized by family and friends.
His education at Cumberland High School and the Milwaukee School of Engineering laid a strong foundation for his productive career. Beyond his professional life, Kenneth was a long-time member of the U.S. Power Squadron, enjoying sailing and supporting the boating community on Narragansett Bay. He served as president for both the Blackstone Valley and Attleboro Power Squadrons. He enjoyed antique collecting and, over the years, he developed an extensive collection that featured numerous industrial and artistic acquisitions.
Kenneth had a Quaker upbringing, but those who knew him will attest that he was anything but quiet. He was a generous, helpful, hardworking individual who never hesitated to support others and to speak his mind.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, LaVonne Kuehn White; his son, William White, daughter-in-law, Theresa Hancock White and granddaughter, Clara White; daughter, Rebecca White Huffman and son-in-law, Tyler Huffman; brother, Charles H. White II; and sister, Laurie White Dugoni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Auriel White.
His funeral service will be held Friday, September 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Cumberland. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visitin hours prior to the service from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Kenneth's big heart and legacy of craftsmanship, industriousness, and creativity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
