Kay Low Obituary

Providence - Kay (Hohenthaner) Low, 91, of Providence, died Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Theodore F. Low.

Born in Yankton, South Dakota, a daughter of the late Peter and Blanche (Olafson) Hohenthaner, she had resided in Providence for nearly seventy years and vacationed in Switzerland and Matunuck, RI, for many years.

Mrs. Low graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Quonset Point Naval Air Station and in private practice prior to her marriage. She would later serve as Director of the Old Stone Bank Charitable Foundation as well as an owner of a needlepoint shop. She created many kneelers that still exist in churches throughout RI.

As a volunteer, she was Chairman of Volunteers and of Nursing Services at the American Red Cross, Providence. She was a member of the Providence County Garden Club, the Handicraft Club, and the Providence Art Club and served on the boards of many organizations, including Trinity Square Repertory Theater and the Providence Athenaeum. She was an avid bridge player, pausing only to care for her daughters.

Mrs. Low was a Rhode Island delegate to the 1968 Republican National Convention and organized many successful political campaigns.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sara B. Low of Providence, and Emily Low Boenning and her husband Dickson, of Jamestown, and her nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James Hohenthaner and Marilyn Hohenthaner Sherman.

At her request, there will be no service or gathering, and the burial will be private. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.bellowsfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
