Julia Igoe Obituary

Julia Jane Igoe, 21, of Lincoln, Rhode Island passed away suddenly on May 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving daughter and sister and compassionate, kind and inspiring soul to her family, friends, and everyone she knew.

Julia was born on October 23, 2002 in Providence, Rhode Island, the third child of Paul G. Igoe and Judith A. Gnys. Julia attended the Lincoln School in Providence, Rhode Island and lived and studied at The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, The Bahamas for the Fall 2019 semester. Julia graduated in June 2021 from Lincoln having played as a two-sport varsity athlete for each of her four years. While in her senior year, Julia served as captain of the Varsity Soccer and Varsity Lacrosse teams and received the Lynx Award, awarded to the athlete displaying superior camaraderie and competitive spirit.

In 2021, Julia was recruited to play soccer at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where she was a member of the Kenyon College Women's Soccer team in each of her three years at the school. For every semester Julia was enrolled at Kenyon, she was awarded a Distinguished Academic Scholarship and was named to the Kenyon College Merit List. In the Fall of 2021, Julia received the Student-Athlete Award for the highest semester G.P.A. on the women's soccer team. At Kenyon Julia was a sociology major, minoring in English and with a concentration in women's and gender studies. While studying at Kenyon, Julia was a member of the Zeta Alpha Pi Sorority, the Kenyon Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Athletes for Equality, and the Kenyon Student Council.
During her college summers, Julia was a United States Senate Intern for Senator Jack Reed in Washington, D.C. in 2022, Edelman Smithfield, in their environmental, social and governance advisory group in New York in 2023, and had recently accepted an internship position with Weber Shandrick, a public relations firm in NY, which she was scheduled to begin in June 2024. While in high school, Julia was a peer educator for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England.

Julia had recently returned from a semester studying in Europe and begun the process of applying for a post-graduate Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Spain.

For all who knew Julia and those whose lives she touched, and for the greater world she was yet to conquer, Julia's loss is immeasurable. Her indomitable spirit, keen intellect, athleticism, humor, fearlessness, and passion and love for family and friends is unsurpassed. We cannot really know or understand why Julia is gone; such courage, such passion, such love seems impossible to replace; yet cannot be extinguished. We take some comfort in knowing a spirit as brave and true as Julia's does not pass with her physical body. All who knew her feel it still.

Survivors include Julia's father Paul, mother Judith Gnys, devoted brothers Dylan and Harrison, grandmothers Ann Gnys and Theresa Igoe, numerous aunts and uncles and many cousins.
