Pawtucket - John P. Ustas “Jack”, 90, of Bloomfield Street, died Thursday, July 21, 2022 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Joan F. (Teer) Ustas. Mr. & Mrs. Ustas had been married for forty-two years.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Lesniewski) Ustasiewski, he had lived in Pawtucket for the past eight years, previously living in South Attleboro and Narragansett in a home he built on the Narrow River.
Mr. Ustas was a salesman for the former Valley Gas Co. and for Taco Home Solutions, Cranston. He was the owner of The Kitchen, Pawtucket, and had also worked at the Rhode Island Welcome Center, Richmond and at Phantom Farms, Cumberland, before retiring.
John was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy, Pawtucket and the Rhode Island School of Design. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957.
A true artist, he was a self taught and avid woodworker and carver. He also enjoyed sketching and drawing. In his younger years he loved skiing and was a ski instructor at King Pine Ski Resort in Madison, New Hampshire. He was a member and past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Cumberland.
Besides his wife, he was the proud father of Kelley Dwyer of Lincoln, Jennifer Dekreon of Lincoln, Christopher Ustas of Narragansett, Kathleen Andrews of South Kingstown, Beth Kelley of Pawtucket, Jennifer Briggs of South Attleboro, and the late Nancy Lindsay. He was also the loving “Bampa” to fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
