Lincoln – John E. “Jack” Peterson, 92, of Chapel Street, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Mount St. Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. He was the beloved husband of the late Amelia (Hallal) Peterson and the companion of the late Barbara Papineau.
Born in North Providence, a son of the late Henry and Lucy (McConnell) Peterson, he had lived in Lincoln since 1957.
Mr. Peterson was a Professor Emeritus at Rhode Island College, where he taught Physics and Astronomy for thirty years before retiring. Prior to that, he was a school teacher in the City of Cranston for six years. He was a graduate of Rhode Island College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Jack was a magician and was a member of the Society of American Magicians, the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Rhode Island Society of Magicians. An Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War. He was a member of Christ Church, Lincoln.
He is survived by two daughters, Leslie Soiles of Worcester, MA and Christine Whatley of Lincoln; four sons, John E. Peterson, Jr. of Brandon, VT, Mark A. Peterson of Summit, N.J., Eric C. Peterson of East Longmeadow, MA, and Carl A. Peterson of Tiverton; one sister, Lucy Reale of Massachusetts; one son-in-law; three daughters-in-law; eighteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Benjamin Peterson, Henry Peterson, Caroline Loader and David Peterson.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Monday, October 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ Church, 1643 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
