Lincoln - Joanne G. (Pequeno) Avery, 79, of Binford Street, died Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Benjamin G. and Alice (Caires) Pequeno, she had lived in Lincoln for nearly thirty years.
After earning her Associate’s Degree, Joanne worked at the State of Rhode Island Division of Vocational Rehabilitation as a receptionist and later worked in Pawtucket as a social worker.
She was a member of Kingdom Lighthouse Church, Providence, which she referred to as her “second home”. She was active in the church serving as a member of the Board of Elders, as treasurer and finance committee member, and was director of the Community Awards Ceremony. She loved to make floral arrangements for the church, and sang a solo every Sunday.
She is survived by one son, John Avery of Lincoln; two sisters, Corinne Handing of Norway, and Gloria Caires of California; one brother, Benjamin A. Pequeno of East Providence; and two grandchildren, Joshua Pontbriant Avery and Katlyn Burke.
Her funeral will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Friday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. A Service of Songs in her memory will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in Kingdom Lighthouse Church, 110 Ruggles Street, Providence.
