Pawtucket – On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in Providence at Rhode Island Hospital, Jean-Louis (Frenchie) Chasse, 76, of Pawtucket passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Quebec, Canada, a son of the late Antoine and Alphada (Lebel) Chasse, he had moved to Lawrence, MA in the 1960’s, and resided in Pawtucket for the past 23 years.
He is survived by wife Dale A. (Coppola) Chasse of Pawtucket, RI and their son Daniel Chasse of Providence, RI. Jean was predeceased by his first wife Barbara A. (Cerami) Solomon and is survived by their daughter; Deanne Costello of Lawrence, MA; son Steven and his wife Julie (Hug) Chasse of Newton, MA; son John and his wife Jody (St. Hilaire) Chasse of Billerica, MA; grandsons Brandon, Jack, Joseph, William, and Luke; a sister Collette Ouellette of Quebec who he loved immensely and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Jean was a welder and pipefitter for Local #131, Steamfitters & Plumbers of Hooksett, NH, for 20 years before retiring in 1987 due to injury. He was a lover of crafts and tools. There wasn’t a project he wouldn’t tackle. He loved cars; the older and bigger, the better (GM of course, being a union man). He wasn’t one to pass up a game of cribbage and loved fishing. In his mind anything could be fixed with duct tape. “It was as simple as that”. The way to his heart was through food and had an appetite like no other. Just remember, the steak should never be over-cooked, and the pecan pie should NEVER be heated!
Frenchie was a stubborn man and certainly a fighter. He took his illness head-on and in the humblest of ways. No matter how many appointments, tests, and rounds of bad news came his way, he would say “What am I going to do? I cannot change what I cannot change…” However, when asked how he felt, he would always say: “I couldn’t ask for better”. He was very grateful for the care he received through his oncology team at RI Hospital.
