James Jon Pora, 65, of Fairhaven, MA, passed away on July 29, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA, surrounded by his loving family. James, fondly known as Jim, was born on December 8, 1958 to the late Stella (Orzechowicz) Pora and grew up in Cumberland, RI. After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1976, he went on to study at Bryant University and received an Associate’s Degree. He would later work for the University for many years, later in life. After earning his degree he went on to work for his brother’s custodial business as a custodian. Shortly after, he started his own named JAL Custodial Service, kick starting a 30 year career in the field. Jim was known as a hard worker with a powerful work ethic that he instilled in his three boys. He was the proud owner of One Stop Sports Shop in Cumberland, RI for many years, which many people have fond memories of, including his sons. Jim then went on to work for Tasca Automotive Group and ended his custodial career at Ford Middle School in Acushnet. At the time of his death he was employed as a driver for Community Connections in Fairhaven. He was loved and respected by his coworkers and the clients he served. Jim’s loving spirit is carried on by his loving partner, Lesley Perkins; and his three remarkable sons, James A. Pora, and wife Skye Pora, Jonathan Pora, Joshua Pora, and fiancé Christina Ruggiero. He also leaves behind his siblings; Jan Pora and wife Linda Pora, Stanley Pora, and wife Kathy Pora; his sister Franceska Pora Rush, and husband Ron Rush, his grandchildren Lucas Pora, Layla Pora, Jetsyn Pora, Waylon Pora, and Estelle Pora, with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His mother Stella (Orzechowicz) Pora preceded him in death in 2002 and brother David Pora in 1956. Jim was a talented hockey player and a lover of fast cars, his dog Luna, and cooking, but above all, his family. Jim was a proud father, an outstanding grandfather, and doting life partner, who loved fiercely and taught his sons the importance of sticking together. Jim was also known for his adventurous side. In 2017, he was able to drive his prized possession and dream car (a Chevy Corvette) cross country with his partner which was said to be “the best trip ever!” One of his favorite hobbies was to sit on his front porch chatting with the neighbors and people passing by. He will be missed for his animated long stories, his thoughtfulness, and contagious spirit.
