Cumberland - Gevriye "Gabriel" Kucukkaya of High Street, died Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Menise (Hadodo) Kucukkaya.
Born in Midyat, Turkey, a son of the late Mikael and Ziyane (Hincir) Kucukkaya, he moved to the United States in 1978, settling in Central Falls and was living in Cumberland at the time of his passing.
Mr. Kucukkaya was a renowned cobbler, and was the owner of Knapp Shoes, East Providence.
A longtime member of Saint Ephraim Syriac Orthodox Church, he was a member of the Board of Trustees for many years. His faith, family and work were central to his life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Filiz Halef of Florida, Fidan Halef of Nova Scotia, Figen Mirza of New Jersey and Zumrut Tayeh of Lincoln; three sons, Mikael Kucukkaya of Cumberland, Zekayi Kucukkaya of Cumberland and John Kucukkaya of New Jersey; one brother Yosef Kucukkaya of Sweden; sixteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Sariye Hanna, Sede Halef and Shibo Kucukkaya.
His family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff in the Intensive Care Unit at Landmark Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave their beloved husband, father and grandfather.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 10:30 AM in Saint Ephraim Syriac Orthodox Church, 215 Washington Street, Central Falls. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the church. Burial will take place on Thursday at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, New Jersey.
