Mystic, CT - Georgette Muriel DiCandia was born June 1, 1929 and passed on September 24, 2021. Georgette DiCandia was the daughter of Rene and Laurette (Lapierre) Voyer and passed away in the early hours of September 24 at Yale Lawrence Memorial Hospital, New London from smoke inhalation after a house fire in her home in Mystic where she lived with her son. She was married to her beloved husband of 69 years who succumbed to COVID19 in April, 2020 and is survived by her children, Clarisse of Westerly, RI, Nadine of Kansas City, MO, Thomas Jr. of Petaluma, CA, David, of Oakdale, CT and Gregory of Mystic, CT two sisters-in-law, Anne Remillard and Carmel DiCandia of Woonsocket and many nieces and nephews.
During her lifetime she was active in Literacy Volunteers, English as a Second Language and was a substitute teacher in the Groton area. She was fluent in four languages and inspired many to expand their world through reading. She was a devoted wife and mother who supported all our interests and ambitions and was a caregiver for her father, mother and aunts for their elder years. She had a fierce respect for the U.S. Constitution and defended everyone’s inalienable rights. She had a love of nature and wildlife and encouraged us to be mindful of conservation of nature long before taking care of our planet became identified as a necessary theme. She fed the birds and rescued many a feral cat! She was visionary, creative and a quietly accomplished artist.
