He was a member of Kirkbrae Country Club, Lincoln, and an avid beach goer, especially to Narragansett Town Beach.  He enjoyed watching his children play sports, and was a volunteer for the Lincoln Parks & Recreation Department.  He enjoyed photography and photographed many Lincoln High School sporting events while his children attended school.  He appreciated listening to all kinds of music and was an avid reader, and loved to tend to his garden and lawn.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served during the Vietnam War, and was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Albion.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, M. Brooke Nelson of Corona, California, and Sara Fathree of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sons, Patrick Scoggins of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Matthew Scoggins of Devens, Massachusetts; and six grandchildren.  He was the brother of the late Ronnie Haile and Connie Sutton.
