George V. Arruda

Pawtucket – George V. Arruda, 89, of Smithfield Avenue, died Friday, February 15, 2019, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne (Haley) Arruda.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Antone V. and Lydia (Carvalho) Arruda, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.

Mr. Arruda worked as an anondizer for Alumaline, retiring in 1992.  Upon retirement, he went to work with his wife at Meals on Wheels until 2009, and with his son, Robert, at Quality Behavioral Health until August of last year.

He was a communicant of the former Saint Maria Goretti Church, Pawtucket, and a member of the Rev. I.J. Bouffard Council #2965, Knights of Columbus, North Providence.

An avid gardener, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and was well known to give plants and vegetables to family and friends every year.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by three daughters, Lynn-Marie Arruda of Warwick, Barbara Geisman, and her husband Eric, of Pawtucket, and Helen Neves, and her husband Mark, of Warwick; two sons, Robert Arruda, and his wife Elizabeth, of East Greenwich, and Steven Arruda of Providence; one sister, Barbara Higgins of North Providence; eight grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Bischa..

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1081 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call Wednesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.  Private burial, with military honors, will take place in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of R.I., 1085 North Main Street, Providence, R.I. 02904 would be appreciated.
