Pawtucket - Edward Swiszcz, 93, passed away on Sunday, February 7 at the St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. He was the beloved husband of the late Elsie (Mills) Swiszcz. Born in Providence, he was the son of Stanley and Helen Swiszcz. A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Edward lived for over 50 years in Pawtucket before moving to the Villa at St. Antoine 5 years ago. Edward was a furniture finisher for many years for Liberty Furniture Company in East Providence, before retiring in 1993. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was an active member of the Barney Merry Masonic Lodge in Pawtucket, serving at one point as Worshipful Master. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed dancing, particularly ballroom dancing.
He is survived by son Kenneth Swiszcz of Mesa, AZ; daughter Janice Mirza and her husband Robert Mirza of Attleboro, MA; son Brian Swiszcz of Pawtucket, RI; son Bruce (Doug) Swiszcz and his partner Richard Marchant of Cumberland, RI; and by longtime companion Patricia Coogan of North Providence, RI.
He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a great granddaughter; by his brothers Frank Swiszcz and Chester Swiszcz; and by his half-brothers John Kaplonski, Walter Kaplonski, Chester Kaplonski, Anthony Kaplonski and Stanley Kaplonski.
