BRISTOL- Edward L. Shurtleff, 93, formerly of North Scituate, died Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Rhode Island Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn F. (Turgeon) Shurtleff. They had been married 70 years at the time of her passing.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Edwin and Blanche (Lessard) Shurtleff, he and Carolyn built a house in North Scituate and resided there for fifty-four years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War period and was a Teamster with Local 251 for 40 years. Ed and Carolyn enjoyed camping in Jamestown with the family, where they summered at Fort Getty for forty years. He and Carolyn enjoyed retirement, traveling extensively throughout their lives, going with family to Europe, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. He was a lifelong Ford enthusiast who enjoyed riding in his beloved red Mustang convertible all summer long.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Proule of Lincoln; Joan Wolf of Barrington, and Allison Shurtleff-Fraioli of Little Compton; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Leslie Gibbons and brother of the late Donald and Ruth Shurtleff.
His funeral and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to The Alzeheimer's Association would be appreciated. Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
