Dorothy Plant Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann (Rebello) Plant, affectionately known as Dotty to those close to her. Dorothy passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 27, 1943, to Antonio and Adelaide Rebello, Dorothy and her sister Alda were raised in the Valley Falls area of Cumberland. Dorothy lived a life full of kindness, generosity, and remarkable grace. She shared 55 wonderful years with her devoted husband, Frederick (Ted) Plant. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories in Cumberland.

Dorothy worked for the Cumberland school department for 25 years, where she was known for her dedication and warm spirit. In 2012, Dorothy and Ted sold their house on Green Street, where they had raised their children, Kevin and Kristen, to start a new chapter in Florida. This move allowed them to be closer to their grandchildren, bringing great joy as they watched them grow up.

She had a deep love for animals and was dedicated to her whole family-both immediate and extended. Dorothy is survived by her son, Kevin Plant, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Plant, her daughter, Kristen Gillan, her son-in-law, Ian Gillan, and her four treasured grandchildren: Alexander Plant, Morgan Plant, Liam Gillan, and Brody Gillan. She was also a beloved "Auntie Dotty" to many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving sister, Alda Bolton.

For the last 15 years, Dorothy bravely battled Parkinson's disease with remarkable courage and strength. Dorothy was no stranger to the challenges posed by Parkinson's disease, having been a devoted caregiver to her father, who battled the illness.

Dorothy will be remembered for her warm heart, courage, grace, and love for her family. Her memory will be carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 8:45 AM from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.

In honor of her life and her commitment to Parkinson's research, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Please visit https://tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=2967 to contribute. Supporting this foundation helps advance research and continues the fight Dorothy faced so bravely.
