Dorothy I. (Vine) Garvey

Cumberland – Dorothy I. (Vine) Garvey, 90, of Cumberland, RI passed peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, East Providence.  She was the beloved wife of Gilchrist Garvey for sixty-nine years.

Dorothy was born in Pawtucket to the late John and Anne (Platt) Vine.  She lived in Seekonk, Massachusetts and Cumberland for most of her life.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Stephen Garvey (Patricia) of North Kingstown and David Garvey (Cindy) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and one daughter, Lisa Brainerd (Greg) of Charleston, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.  She was the mother of the late Mark Garvey (Diane) and the sister of the late Marion Vine Eklof and the late Russell Vine.

Dorothy began her career with AT&T before raising four children and then working in the jewelry industry as an office administrator until her retirement.

Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her family, international travel, and making her family’s favorite baked goods.  She was an avid swimmer who also had a special fondness for dogs.  She was an accomplished seamstress and loved all handwork. 

Her funeral service and burial will be private.  Dorothy will be laid to rest in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
