Cumberland - Dorothea (Savvides) Stergis, 94, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully Monday, March 9, 2026 at The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville, RI. She was the loving wife of the late George P. Stergis.Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Savvas Savvides and the late Sophia (Zavaliangos) Castellucci.
She was a graduate of Pawtucket West High School, and resided in Cumberland for the past sixty-two years.Dottie worked with her mother at Sophie's Miracle Beauty Shop in Pawtucket, and with her mother, step-father Archie and brother Frederic at Archie's Tavern in Pawtucket. Later in years Dottie and her husband George founded Stergis Supply Inc. in Providence in 1969, and later moved to Pawtucket.
Dottie was a lifelong member of Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where she was an Assumption Sunday School teacher for many years and an Assumption PTO Member.
She is survived by her brother Frederic Castellucci and two daughters, Cynthia Mulvey and Lauren Stergis; one son, Christopher Stergis; and was the mother of the late Susan Vendetti. She was grandmother to six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dottie enjoyed cooking and baking, especially on birthdays and holidays. She will forever be remembered for many family favorites such as: Spanakopita, Avgolemono (Greek, lemon soup), Stuffed Leg of lamb, Baklava, Greek Easter bread, Grapenut pudding and Apple strudel, to name a few.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. In keeping with Dottie's wishes, her funeral and burial will be private.
