Pawtucket - Donald M. Brooks, Sr., 94, of Pawtucket, died Friday, June 20, 2025 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Joslin (Peckham) Brooks, to whom he had shared sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Pawtucket, son of the late David and Ella (Stott) Brooks, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Brooks worked as an accountant for Sheldahl Corp., Rumford, and later for the City of Pawtucket as an accountant, as manager of the Dennis M. Lynch Arena, and as supervisor of Parks & Recreation before retiring.
Affectionately known of "Uncle Don", he loved baseball, and was a coach for many years for Darlington American Little League, Babe Ruth, and was the inspiration for the Uncle Don's Boys at the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket.
He was a lifelong member of Park Place Congregational Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, and was the oldest member of the DIP Club, Pawtucket, where he was a champion Hi-Lo Jack player. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Leonard, and her husband Christopher of Ridgefield, CT; one son, Donald M. Brooks, Jr., and his wife Kimberly, of Lincoln; one brother, Dr. Robert G. Brooks of Warwick; four grandsons, Andrew Leonard, Alec Leonard, Ryan Brooks and Connor Brooks; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late David Brooks, Shirley Haggerty and Beverly Wright.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
