Don Allenson Obituary

Cumberland – Don R. Allenson, 89, of Willis Drive, died Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Miriam Hospital, Providence.  He was the beloved husband of Helen (Balkum) Allenson.  Mr. & Mrs. Allenson had been married for fifty-eight years.

Born in Central Falls, a son of the late Clifford A. and Helen (Cartwright) Allenson, he had lived in Cumberland for the past forty-six years.

Mr. Allenson was a display manager for Sears Roebuck Co. retiring in 1991.  He was a graduate of the School of Practical Art, Boston.

He was a member of Union Lodge #10, F. & A.M., Pawtucket, and volunteered for the Cumberland F.O.P.A. for many years.  He served in the Naval Reserves.

He loved to spend time in New Hampshire with his family, summering in New London, and skiing at Mount Sunapee and King Ridge.  He enjoyed painting with watercolors, and playing cards and cribbage with friends, but most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kristen Kenyon, M.D., and her husband Thomas, of Plainville, Mass.; one son, David Allenson, and his wife Christine, of North Kingstown; one sister, Patricia Longworth of Topsham, Maine; and four granddaughters, Katherine and Caroline Kenyon, and Elizabeth and Alexandra Allenson.  He was the brother of the late Margaret Whitehead and Clifford A. Allenson, Jr.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.  Arrangements with Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln.
