Diane (Therrien) Hamel

Diane L. (Therrien) Hamel, born on May 18, 1952, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln on September 17, 2024. Diane was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth and compassion.

Diane is survived by her two devoted sons, Matthew Hamel of Lincoln and Mark Hamel (Jessica) of Florida, and her cherished grandsons, Luke and Jack. As the eldest of eight children, Diane held a special place in the hearts of her siblings: Dennis, Donald, Denise, David (Martha), Daniel (Kristin), Dean, and Donna and 19 adoring nieces and nephews.

She grew up in Burrillville, Rhode Island, and enjoyed spending summers and holidays at the family cottages at Pinecrest on Tarklin Pond. Diane spent her adult life in North Smithfield and Lincoln, where she built a meaningful career as a licensed clinical social worker. For 25 years Diane dedicated herself to helping hundreds of children and families, providing them with guidance and support.

Diane had a passion for crafts and metal detecting and found joy in the simple pleasure of reading. Though she considered herself a homebody, she embarked on incredible adventures with her family, exploring the wonders of Egypt, Paris, London, Germany, and Canada. A proud Cub Scout mom, Diane continued a family legacy of Scouting excellence with her sons, and in the past year both of her grandsons attained the rank of Eagle Scout.

She was preceded in passing by her loving parents, Edward and Pauline (St. Germain) Therrien. Diane's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her dedication to her work, and the countless lives she touched throughout her life.
