Diana P. Evans, 92, of Chepachet, RI, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
Born in East Providence, she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Carrie W. (Clayton) Evans. During the depression, her family moved to Pascoag, R.I. where she spent most of her childhood. In 1947, she moved again with her family to Pawtucket where she graduated from Pawtucket East High School. She subsequently earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Rhode Island in Business Administration in 1954. After graduation, Miss Evans was a dedicated City of Pawtucket kindergarten teacher for thirty five years before retiring in 1989. She was a Pawtucket resident for more than seventy years before relocating to Chepachet six years ago with her sister Charlotte to be closer to her niece Carrie Evans Conti and nephews Dana, Derek and Giles Evans.
She was a longtime summer resident of Matunuck, R.I. where she enjoyed the beach, attending shows at the Theatre by the Sea, and most of all participating in large family gatherings. Together with her sister Charlotte, she was an enthusiastic line dancer with various dance groups in Pawtucket, Wakefield and Cranston, with whom they would enjoy annual trips to the Catskills. Other highlights over the years included a 'Grand Tour' of Europe, sailing on the Queen Mary II, and an excursion to the 1964 New York World's Fair.
She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews: Carrie Evans Conti, Giles T. Evans, Derek S. Evans, Dana S. Evans, Candace Killam Hall, Amy K. Soule, Charles W. Killam Jr., Clayton E. Evans, Jr., A. John Evans, and Bailey E. Fine, as well as 14 grandnieces and grandnephews and 19 great grandnieces and great grandnephews. She was predeceased by her five siblings: Albert J. Evans, Clayton E. Evans, Isabel E. Killam, Charlotte A. Evans, and Dana S. Evans.
A Requiem Eucharist will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 11:00 am in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket, RI. Burial will follow in Moshassuck Cemetery, Central Falls, RI. Family and friends are warmly invited.
