Claire Phillips Obituary

Our dear mother Claire Louise Phillips, peacefully passed away on November 17, 2024 at the age of 92.  She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.  She was fortunate to live a long, rich life full of love.

Born in North Smithfield, a daughter of the late Clair (Bob) and Catherine St. Amant she resided in Rhode Island most of her life except for a period of 3 years when she lived on her son’s farm in Medford,  Oregon.  Her brother, Edward St. Amant has also predeceased her.

Claire was a unique soul, a free spirit who marched to the beat of her own drum.  She loved all the people she knew to the fullest extent and graced them with true insight, wisdom, humor and caring.

Claire loved her family above all else.  She and her husband Frank Phillips Sr., were very much in love and devoted to each other. Frank was a World War II Veteran.

Claire was a loving mother who was always ready to offer an ear and lend a deep thought or word of advice.  As a dedicated and hardworking mother of four children, she managed to care for her family as she worked at waitressing and bookkeeping.  She did not retire until she was 80 years old!

Tales of her childhood years at Primrose Pond never failed to captivate anyone who had the privilege to hear them.  In her teen years, motorcycles were her passion and she had many photographs showcasing her adventures.

Claire was an avid reader, movie watcher, dog owner, walker and nature lover.  She enjoyed chatting about everything under the sun and never lost her sense of imagination and wonder.

Claire leaves behind her four children in order of age, Paul Di Filippo, Catherine La Prova, Frank Phillips Jr. and Robert Di Filippo; grandchildren in order of age, Zachariah Fratus, Michael Di Filippo, Nicholas Phillips, George Phillips, Kristen Di Filippo, Beck Fuller and also a great grandson, Leo Phillips.

To commemorate Claire’s incredible journey, a brief Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 1:00pm in the Chapel of The Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter.  Her ashes will be buried next to her husband, Frank.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited and may gather at the Cemetery Administration Building parking area at 12:45pm.  There will be a Celebration of Life to be announced that will be held at Pulaski Park during the summer of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI   02904, Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow St., Providence, RI 02903 or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
