Charles "Chip" Underwood III Obituary

Cumberland - Charles W. Underwood III, better known as Chip, passed away on July 21, 2018, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Charles W. Underwood Jr. and Barbara (Emery) Underwood.

Chip was born on September 13, 1948, in Providence, RI, and was a lifelong resident of Cumberland. He attended Community School and Cumberland High School. He also served in the R.I. National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. After serving in the guard, he worked for his father's business, Gorwood Business Services, until he became the CEO and owner of the business in 2004.

Chip was a huge advocate of the local community organizations. He volunteered an immense amount of time at the Franklin Farm Community Garden, the Cumberland Beagle Club, and the New England Antique Truck and Tractor Association. He was also an active participant in the Arnold Mills 4th of July Parade for over 50 years where he also organized the tractor section.

Chip is survived by three sons, Charles of Cumberland, Kenneth of Shirley, Massachusetts, and William of Worcester, Massachusetts, as well as one granddaughter, Violet. He is also survived by his only sister, Susan Goulet and her husband, Dennis, of Kingston, New Hampshire; his niece, Melissa MacDonald and her husband, Adam, of Kingston, New Hampshire; their 2 children, Grant and Scarlet; and his nephew, Jonathan Goulet of Fremont, New Hampshire, and his son, Jacob. Chip also leaves behind numerous cousins.

A celebration of his life will take place in September.
