Cumberland - Charles W. “Chuck” Eckhardt, 74, of Cumberland, died Friday, July 16, 2021 peacefully in his sleep. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline C. (Gregait) Eckhardt. Chuck and Jackie had been married for fifty years.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, a son of the late Jack and Dorothy (Schmidt) Eckhardt, he had lived in Cumberland for the past thirty-eight years.
The family moved to Cumberland when Chuck joined Lincoln Dimensional Tube as a manufacturer’s sales representative. He continued his career in sales with Bill Collins Associates and finally EdOs Manufacturers Reps, before retiring.
As an active member of the community, he used his carpentry skills to help build the Community School playground, served on the Principal’s Council at Cumberland High School, and was a trustee of the Arnold Mills Community House, Cumberland. He was devoted to his family and loved adventure. He was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 1 Arnolds Mills. He enjoyed numerous weekend camping trips, loved to explore the outdoors, and being involved in the CHS Girls Field Hockey Team with Danielle. After retirement he enjoyed traveling with Jackie to visit friends and family. He was member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland for 38 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Todd Eckhardt (Pamela) of Westervile, Ohio, and Andrew Eckhardt (Nicole) of Cumberland and daughter Danielle Lawrence (Ryan) of Centennial, Colorado; and his grandchildren Alana, Olivia, and Isabel; Owen, Elliot, and Benjamin; Hazel, Ruby, and Charles. He also leaves his sister, Linda L. Englebrecht of Des Plaines, Illinois. He was the brother of the late Jackie L. Eckhardt and William J. Eckhardt.
His funeral service will be celebrated Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 126 Angell Road, Cumberland.
