Carl Craig Hedberg C. Craig Hedberg passed away unexpectedly on November 21, 2023. He died at his home in Sun City Center, Florida. Born in Providence, RI on July 4, 1946, he was the son of the late Carl W. and Jennie (Johnson) Hedberg. Craig was raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
He graduated from Pawtucket West High School class of 1964. He went on to attend Brown University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1968. He continued his graduate studies at Northwestern University where he was awarded a Master's Degree in Engineering. He then went on to study at the University of Stockholm, Sweden where he received an additional graduate degree.
Craig began his professional career involving urban planning and transportation systems in Portland, Maine. He later moved to the DC area. Ultimately he founded his own company, Integrated Transportation Systems, which he ran for thirty plus years. He chaired Traffic Studies for the Montgomery County Chamber and the Bethesda Chamber. With his own company he successfully completed many projects for notable clients. He was admired by many in his professional dealings for his ability, problem-solving and integrity.
Craig was a man of many talents and interests. He was an organist, worked with stained glass, finance, and other things that peaked his interest. He was always on the move with new rabbit holes to explore. He loved to travel. If one was fortunate enough to be his traveling companion they would be amazed at what they would be able to see, learn and explore on a fully packed journey. He saw himself as an adventurer and especially enjoyed Scotland, the Netherlands and Alaska.
Craig was an avid supporter of many causes and charities. His loyalty, caring, kindness and generosity was experienced by his loving family and many friends.
He was the beloved brother of Karla Hedberg of Pawtucket, RI, Karen Van Dyke of Colorado and the late Paul Hedberg. He is also survived by two loving nephews, Dale Van Dyke and Andrew Van Dyke, cousins and extended family. He had many caring and dear friends. He will be sorely missed.
Throughout life he had a curious adventuresome spirit. Recent back surgery was intended to support his goal of having many future years of adventure and travel.
