Betty Hoxie Obituary

Lincoln - Betty (Moorhouse) Hoxie, 91, of Edelweiss Avenue, died Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon G. Hoxie.

Born in Elrose, Saskatchewan, the daughter of the late Charles and Jessie (Brownlie) Moorhouse, she had resided in Lincoln for the past fifty-one years.

After graduating in a high school class of 4 students in Wiseton, Saskatchewan in 1951, and where in earlier years she drove a horse and cart to school carrying her younger brother Jim, Mrs. Hoxie went to Saskatoon where she trained as a medical technologist at St. Paul's Hospital School of Medical Technology and earned membership in the Canadian Society of Laboratory Technologists in 1954. She later continued her work in Portland, Oregon where she met her future husband Gordon. She moved next to Chicago and continued to work as lab supervisor until marrying Gordon in 1959. Betty and Gordon then moved to Vermont and Betty soon devoted her efforts to growing and raising her family. After several moves to different parts of the United States Betty and Gordon settled in Lincoln in 1974. Betty, always a superb scholar, returned to school at Community College of Rhode Island where she earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts in 1983 and another in Medical Laboratory Technology with highest honors in 1986; she subsequently became a member of the American Society for Medical Technology. She was a member of Arnold Mills United Methodist Church in Cumberland.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy Hoxie of Orinda, California; and Steven Hoxie of Howell, Michigan and their wives Cara and Elaina, two brothers, Jim Moorhouse and Brian Moorhouse and their wives Terry and Bonnie, all of Calgary, Alberta; six grandchildren, Philip, Patrick, Ben, Jessie, Stuart and Theodore; two great grandchildren, Aidan and Mina; two nieces, Sandra and Susan; and three nephews, Jason, Brad and Chris.
