Pawtucket - Bernice L. (Greenlee) Benson, 90, of Pawtucket, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Highlands on the East Side, Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Capt. Carl A. Benson, Jr. (PPD).
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Eugene and Frances (Livingstone) Greenlee, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
Bernice was a do-it-yourself person, who was never afraid of taking on projects. She was an accomplished seamstress who would make her own clothing and reupholster furniture. She was incredibly self-sufficient. Bernice was a descendant of Roger Williams and Dr. Stanley Livingstone, and was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pawtucket.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane D'Ambra and her partner Michael Dubois, of Manville, and Linda Salois and her husband Ronald of Pawtucket; two sons, Robert Benson and his wife Sandy of Pawtucket, and Kenneth Benson and his wife Constance of Coventry; her son-in-law James D'Ambra of Blackstone, MA; two sisters, Marion Lisi of Attleboro, and Alice Rose Thatch of Smartsville, CA; six grandchildren, Casey D'Ambra, Corey Gendreau, Caley D'Ambra-Dejesus, Eric Benson, Thomas Salois and Mathieu Salois; one great granddaughter, Ava Gendreau; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Doris DelRicci, Charles Greenlee, Andrew Greenlee, Robert Greenlee, Arthur "James" Greenlee and Helen Greenlee.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM.
